The Simplest and Cheapest Way to Heal Your Gut

The Simplest and Cheapest Way to Heal Your Gut post image

Are you ready for the simplest and cheapest way to heal your gut and cure all kinds of conditions like allergies and asthma, and manage autoimmunity better?

There is a common thread among the popular healing diets, such as, SCD, GAPS, Paleo and AIP.

Actually there are many commonalities in these diets and a lot has to do with avoiding certain foods like gluten, grains, dairy – for some nuts and seeds, nightshades, etc.

But I want to focus on an important food that can be added in to the diet rather than taken out.

Gut Bacteria Need Constant Replenishment

Microbiome research is infiltrating the research centers and universities because even conventional medicine is coming to realize that – as Hippocrates said, all disease begins in the gut.

Health has to do with the balance of bacteria, fungi, yeast and viruses in your gut. In the past we preserved food using lacto-fermentation and this served two purposes:

1- It kept fresh food from spoiling before it could  be eaten

2- It provided essential good bacteria on a regular basis to the host

The process also adds even more value to the food by supplying vitamins and enzymes manufactured by the bacteria.

Eating foods that have been preserved through fermentation on a daily basis will provide a constant stream of beneficial bacteria through the digestive tract that will protect against pathogens. You will not need an expensive probiotic supplement if you consume a diverse array of foods and beverages that have been cultured.

While there are some traditionally fermented products out there to buy, it is best to learn how to make these things at home. Homemade fermented foods are cost effective  – incredibly cheap to make – and actually take very little time to put together – they just need time to culture.

Eating and making a variety of fermented foods will greatly enhance your health and aid in the healing process.

Obviously there are specific steps to take to start practicing fermentation in your home and it is best to try one item at a time until you get it under your belt.

Start to make fermented vegetables like ginger carrots or sauerkraut, then try beet kvass or yogurt. And so on.
