Special Diets

The Weston A Price Foundation dietary recommendations are based upon the research of Dr.Weston Price as published in his book groundbreaking book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.

The Specific Carbohydrate Diet was formulated by Elaine Gottschall in her book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle. It is based on the work of Dr. Sidney Haas who formulated a diet for children with Celiac Sprue or failure to thrive (as it was called in the early 1900’s). It is a diet geared towards people with gut dysbiosis and the resulting conditions and diseases, such as, Crohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis, Celiac, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and other autoimmune diseases, as well as the Autism Spectrum Disorders.

The GAPS Diet stands for Gut and Psychology Syndrome and was formulated by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride in her book, Gut and Psychology Syndrome. The GAPS diet takes the Specific Carbohydrate Diet to another level by incorporating the principles of the SCD with traditional healing methods and the principles of the Weston Price Foundation.

The Paleo Diet is based on the work of Dr. Loren Cordain in his book The Paleo Diet. The Primal Dietis based on the work of Mark Sisson, in his book Primal Blueprint. Both diets are based upon archeological information of what our ancestors ate while they were hunter/gatherers. This goes back way before the last 10,000 years when agriculture took hold. Therefore, these diets propose that our ancestors ate plenty of wild game and foraged vegetables.
