Recently, The Washington Post reported about the FDA’s reluctance to make a decision about gluten-free labeling. Under a 2004 law Congress gave the FDA until 2008 to establish a standard for food manufacturers who want to use the term “gluten-free” in their food label.
Real Milk Not Shaking in Finland
This McDonald’s ad, which is running in Finland cracked me up. It just goes to show you what we are up against when McDonald’s can advertise their milk shake as “real” because it has some milk in. But what’s up with the upside down udders? Sadly, it appears that the cow is confused with up from down. And gravity. Maybe it drank one too many milk shakes!
Now let’s take a close look at the other ingredients in one of their shakes.

This, in the face of serious concerns by scientists and consumers about the health and environmental impacts of HFCS.

What you see above is a Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO) that may house hundreds to thousands of factory farmed animals in confinement buildings. It epitomizes the corporate takeover of chickens, turkeys, ducks, cows, calves, pigs, etc. It is the embodiment of cruelty to animals.
Heads up: Look What’s Coming Down the Pike!
If it is not already clear to you what stakes Big Ag has in biotechnology, here’s what is coming down the pike. There is a new “super alliance” recently formed, called the Alliance to Feed the Future. This new syndicate brings together huge megacompany members such as the Council for Biotechnology Information (whose members include BASF, DuPont, Dow, and Monsanto), with other huge food processing companies like the International Food Additives Council, American Soybean Association, CropLife America (whose website features stories such as “Benefits of Pesticides and Crop-Protection Chemicals”) the International Formula Council and the National Association of Margarine Manufacturer.
