August Love Links

August Love Links post image

August has just flown by! I’m sad to think the summer is ending. I’m sure we will still have some hot days left, but September brings thoughts of fall and the cooler days to come. August has seen some excellent posts on the internet. Here are just a few…

Problems in the Food Supply

Six Tips for avoiding GMO foods from Whole Green Love caught my eye. There was another important  post from Oh Lardy! about why you should stop feeding your child baby cereal. Did you know that cereal grains are very difficult for babies to digest and this practice in this country sets them up for digestive problems?

Savory Lotus has informed us about the problems with protein powders and I also shared why I gave up orange juice and why I gave up peanut butter.

Great Summer Recipes

We’ve been eating this heirloom tomato and Avocado Sandwich from The Organic Kitchen — albeit with grain free bread. It is awesome! I just love homegrown tomatoes! But really, heirloom tomatoes don’t need much of anything — they are incredible on their own!

How about this amazing recipe for dairy free  peach ice cream from Paleo in PDX. And check out this gluten free chocolate cake from Clean Eats in the Zoo.

I’m always on the lookout for recipes with new ideas and these pork belly carnitas from Meatified fits the bill!

We try to keep meals simple in the summer and I loved these deconstructed grassfed hamburgers from Real Food Outlaws and this ginger chicken salad from Life By Jeannie.

Homemade Mommy shares 30 tips for real food newbies. It is so important so get help when just starting out on this real food journey!

Alternative Approaches

I really loved Natural Family Today’s post about how to develop creative thinking in children. How we approach education can make such an impact on our kids!

Health Extremist discusses the symptoms and causes of hypothyroidism in a very comprehensive post — a condition overlooked in many cases.

Natural Alternative Therapies teaches us how to increase collagen production in your skin. There is a good  explanation as to why using expensive creams is a waste of money. Real Food RN shares her liver detox smoothie.

If you are interested in learning how to meditate, Urban Naturale shares with us a  beginners guide to meditation — a great way to relax.

Another great post was about the oil cleansing method from Shalom Mama. This is a very good idea for healthy skin that makes a lot of sense!

And here is a great homemade deodorant for sensitive skin.

That’s it for August! I trust September will bring more goodies!
