At this time of year, who doesn’t need lots of hard boiled eggs? Here is a novel way to cook eggs that may help you when you have a lot of eggs to hard boil and not enough room in the pot or on top of the stove. Calling it a roasted egg may even entice a child to try a hard boiled egg even if they have been a little hesitant about them. Roasted or hard boiled — they make a great snack especially when they come from pastured chickens!

Roasted Eggs

Ingredients

  • Pastured eggs — as many as you need

Instructions

  1. Make sure your rack is in the middle of the oven
  2. Place a baking sheet or foil at the bottom in case an egg should break
  3. Place the eggs directly on the rack
  4. Bake at 325 degrees F for 30 minutes
  5. Remove eggs and quickly place them in a blow of cold water (to stop the cooking)
  6. Enjoy now or store in the refrigerator
  7. They are exactly like hard boiled eggs

I did this for Easter egg dying. While they were hard boiled enough to dye, they were not cooked all the way through. Even the whites were still runny. I’m thinking the temps need to be higher or they need to go longer. I won’t do it again, though it was convient!

I tried this for Easter egg dying. ((Optimal word: TRIED)). I guess I left them in the oven too long – or my oven (which runs hot) was too hot. Anyway, my eggs exploded. Not all of them, just a few. I am so glad to see your directions… I’m sure I did something wrong:(. Thanks, I’ll try it again using your directions…

Great idea! We love hard boiled eggs. It sounds like a good way to cook lots of eggs. It’s probably not worth heating up the oven for a smaller amount, and I wouldn’t do it in the summer. I might give it a try while the weather is still cool though.

I like this way of occasionally using the oven to cook eggs, for when it’s on at that temperature anyway. Good idea.

I have not heard of roasting eggs! Oh, I am excited to give your method a try. I just boiled 2 dozen eggs (stovetop) yesterday to make pickled eggs with. Next time, I’m roasting them! :)
