I have been waiting to get my hands on this gorgeous book and it arrived last week! What with all the holiday hoopla, I didn’t get a chance to look at it until now and I feel so lucky to have it in my hands! If you are interested in starting the new year healthy, this book is for you! And one lucky reader can win a copy of this beautiful cookbook!
Critical Information in the Book
Not only are there tons of recipes — all for the slow cooker — there is also a good amount of important information about the fats in our diet — which are good and those that are not good. This is critical to know about because it will determine if your meal is healthy or not.
The Paleo diet is a grain-free, legume-free diet as well as a low carb diet. It could be easy to take conventional recipes and just remove the gluten, grains and legumes (and white potatoes) and make the rest of the recipe. I’ve done that. However, that also removes some of the flavors.
These recipes, specifically for Paleo eating include other ways to flavor the food and bring out the savory goodness. It’s always good to follow tried and true recipes, especially when you are first starting.
Arsy’s own success story of overcoming chronic headaches after switching to a Paleo diet, has made her an ardent Paleo promoter. You can find her blogging at Rubies and Radishes.
Tips and Tricks
There are also many tips and tricks included in the book that will help make these slow cooker meals both flavorful and easy!
For instance, did you know that taking the extra step of browning the meat first will add flavor to the meal?
Additionally, you can thicken the gravy by taking out all the liquid after the meat is cooked and reduce it in a saucepan to thicken. You do not need to add any flour (that would not be Paleo) to thicken gravy.
Furthermore, you should add the salt and spices at the end so the liquid doesn’t dilute them. Read the book for more tips.
The Recipes
There are tons of recipes that will wet any appetite and all are made specifically for the crock pot.
I love the way she used spices and other flavorings that add so much to each meal. Arsy has found a way to combine certain flavors that really compliment each other in ways I would never have thought!
I made the Apple Cider Pork recipe with a pork shoulder roast I had and it turned out so amazing! Fork tender meat with just the right amount of spice. The apple cider with the rosemary and thyme add to the savory goodness in a synergistic way. You’re going to love this one!
Do you get that I am very excited about this book?

Sounds like a great recipe book! Thanks!
I have been looking for some good paleo slow cooker recipes. You are right about omitting non-paleo ingredients from existing recipes, they don’t taste very good.
