From the time I was at least 12 years old I had been suffering from Gut and Psychology Syndrome™. I just didn’t know it. During that time my family and I didn’t understand what was going on, and the onset was so slow that – like a frog in a pot –  it became my new “normal”.

I didn’t really admit some of my problems to myself until one day, at church, I was watching a little, autistic boy. All of a sudden I realized that I was doing everything he was doing to calm myself down. Just then, all of my struggles began to come to mind.

I realized that from the time I turned 17, until I was 20, I had been suffering from: autistic problems, stimming, digestive issues, stomach pain, chronic fatigue, chronic anxiety, shaking “episodes”, OCD, and being overweight.

When that light bulb went on everything I was struggling to understand suddenly made sense. More sense than I wanted it too.

Shortly after that, my whole family decided to go on the GAPS™ diet. Looking back on it now it was the best decision we could have made. Within a week I was feeling a huge difference, but I still wasn’t sure this was the answer because I had tried things before, and they would work for a week, a month, rarely more and then I would be worse then before. But this time I didn’t experience any of that, and now after a year of being on the diet I still feel great!

Life has still had it’s ups and downs, and sure some days I haven’t felt like my usual self, but I’ve gone from being sick about 11 months out of the year to being well for 11 months out of the year. For me that is just mind blowing. My continued success makes me want to share GAPS with everyone I can. To encourage them and tell them “it is possible. I am doing it”.

Because my mother was my strength during my 8 years of being chronically ill, she is one of the reasons why I want to share my experiences, and why my main goal is to: “help moms out there dealing with GAPS children.”

That is why in February I started my blog, Gapalicious.com, to share the diet with everyone I could. I also released the Gapalicious™ iPhone app which is the GAPS allowed foods list and approved by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride.

I’m so excited to share with you a secret I’ve been working on the last couple weeks. A GAPS™ forum called the Gapalicious Community!

This forum is meant to be a place to talk about the GAPS diet and lifestyle, share tips and tricks, swap recipes, and encourage other people on GAPS. It is meant to create an online support system. A community of people who will be there to cheer you on you journey, help you through the rough spots, and most importantly to give you hope.

I hope to see all of you there!

Wow! This is awesome! What a great thing you’re doing, Hannah! I look forward to joining the forum. Haven’t started GAPS yet, but I know I need to, and I could really use the support of others from a community like what you’ve started here. Nice work!! And congratulations on your healing so far!

Great idea, Hannah! I already have your iPhone app and found it invaluable when I went through the Intro stages. Thank you!
